Bilateral Defence Talks in New Delhi

New Delhi: The Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman convened for their third Army-to-Army Staff Talks in New Delhi, aimed at bolstering defence collaboration through increased joint exercises, specialized expert exchanges, and enhanced training initiatives.

During the discussions, officials from both nations explored avenues for capability enhancement, military education, and new partnership opportunities under the Defence Cooperation Plan 2026.

The Indian Army shared on X, stating, "Indian Army Strengthens Defence Cooperation with the Royal Army of Oman. The 3rd Army-to-Army Staff Talks (AAST) took place in New Delhi from October 22-23, 2025."

The statement emphasized that the talks were pivotal in advancing military diplomacy and strengthening India-Oman defence ties, focusing on joint exercises, expert exchanges, and training collaboration.

Oman stands as India's closest defence ally in the Gulf, with defence cooperation being a cornerstone of their strategic partnership. It is noteworthy that Oman is the first Gulf nation where all three branches of India's armed forces engage in joint exercises. Recently, both countries have collaborated on maritime security initiatives in the Indian Ocean.

Earlier this year, the 6th High-Level Meeting between the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard (ROPCG) took place in Muscat, led by ICG Director General S Paramesh and Colonel Abdul Aziz Al Jabari from ROPCG, as per the Indian Embassy's statement.

Oman serves as a strategic partner for India and plays a significant role in forums such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Arab League, and Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). The two nations share deep geographical, historical, and cultural ties, fostering a warm and friendly relationship.
